WE OFFER SKILLS FOR LIFE WITH SCOUTING TO ALMOST ONE HUNDRED YOUNG BOYS AND GIRLS AGED 6-14 YEARS OLD.

1st Barford Scout Group has been serving the young people of Barford and the surrounding area for over twenty five years. Proud as we are of our heritage and traditions, we are none the less a thoroughly modern, vibrant and forward thinking Scout Group. Our members learn new skills, follow a challenging and adventurous programme, make new friends and have fun. We meet at our own Headquarters which is usually simply called ‘The Scout Hut’ in Barford. The ‘Scout Hut’ stands in its own grounds just off Wasperton Lane.

Scouting offers challenge and adventure to 400,000 young people and 100,000 adults across the UK. Scouting helps children and young adults reach their full potential. Scouting develops skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment. We believe in helping our Members fulfil their potential by working in teams, learning by doing and thinking for themselves; we give people of every background the chance to stretch themselves, learn new skills and make life-long friends. We help young people to get jobs, save lives and even change the world.

As part of the Scout Association we have rigorous safety and safeguarding policies. All of the adult members of the Group have Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau checks (CRB), hold First Aid qualifications and receive appropriate Leadership Training. Our activities are risk assessed and conform to National Governing Body regulations where appropriate.

We cater for all children and young people of both genders from 6 years of age to 14 years of age.

  • Boys and girls aged from 6 years old to 8 years old can join our Beavers who meet from 6.30pm to 7.30pm on a Thursday night.
  • Boys and girls aged from 8 years old to 10 ½ years old can join our Cub Pack which meets from 6.30pm to 8.00pm on a Tuesday night.

We are always on the look out for suitable adults of any age from 18 years to 100 years to help us in providing activities, equipment or facilities for our young people. There are opportunities to suit everyone, from people who can only commit an hour or so every month, to those of you who have a few hours a week available. We welcome flexible volunteering that suits the individual.

Beavers & Cubs are especially popular and currently we operate a ‘Joining List’ for both our Beaver Colony and our Cub Pack. Please contact us by using the form on the Contacts page, we look forward to hearing from you to put a youngster’s name on our joining list.
